Course Description

This course will explore the definitions of trauma; oppression as a catalyst for trauma; inter-generational, community, and historical trauma; the many ways in which humans express the effects of their traumatic experiences; and what to do to help people heal. In addition, students will identify vicarious/secondary trauma in the helping professions and examine self-care practices to mitigate the effects of exposure to other peoples trauma experiences.
