Course Description

An overview of the civil litigation process, civil rules of procedure for Washington, local court rules, and the types of cases handled in civil court. This includes an examination of the pre-litigation process, the commencement of a civil action, pleading and motions, parties to a case, discovery of evidence, trial, judgments, appeals, and alternative dispute resolution options. Students will examine the paralegal’s role in this process. Students will draft civil litigation documents with an emphasis on using the Washington State Court Rules, as well as civil litigation case law, effectively.
