Admission Requirements
Admission to this program is not guaranteed upon general TCC admission. Students must complete a secondary selective admission process. Students are strongly encouraged to consult with an academic advisor and review the program’s webpage for detailed information on application deadlines, selection criteria, and required documentation. Before applying to the Paramedic program, students must obtain their EMT certificate and have documentation of a minimum of 1 year of active EMT experience (volunteer experience is acceptable).
Admission is competitive and there are usually more program applicants than available positions. Students who complete program prerequisites are not guaranteed program admission.
EMT Certification & Experience
State and/or National Certification with Registry (NREMT).
Minimum of one-year of pre-hospital experience working as an EMT prior to the application deadline.
Note: Students who possess EMT Intermediate Certification for a minimum of one year that have not completed their EMT Certificate at TCC will receive Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) credits that are equivalent to course - Emergency Medical Technician & course - Emergency Medical Technician Lab for a total of 12 credits. Students who earn credit EMS110 and EMS111 through Prior Learning Assessment are not eligible to earn the EMT Certificate due to residency requirements.
Required Coursework
Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA in prerequisite courses.
Minimum C (2.0) in each prerequisite course.
Prerequiste courses must be completed within the past 7 years.
Students who completed prerequisite coursework at a college other than TCC must submit an official transcript to Enrollment Services for evaluation. All coursework must be from a regionally accredited institution to be considered for equivalency.
